It is the first studio album after 3 years since "Adventure" (2016).
It includes characteristic 10 powerful tunes. It's worldwide release on the same day.
"Sweet Candy Power"
Release date: Wednesday June 5th
3 years have passed since our previous album "Adventure"(2016). Our latest album "Sweet Candy Power" became the 19th album since the first one "Burning Farm"(1983) as the studio albums.
Inspired by my favorite 60's and 70's British and American Rock, I wrote 10 new songs.
I write lyrics in English because it is the language of Rock music for me. I'm not a native English speaker and it's always very hard to write lyrics. It took very long with great difficulty. I think my hard work has been amply rewarded. I hope you like my lyrics. I would like to try to sing in Japanese, too someday.
I can write melody lines rather quickly if I have lyrics. I could suitable melody lines with lyrics. We tried to make cool arrangement for the songs which our audience at our shows can enjoy a lot.
In digital age, many people listen to one song by one song but this album includes 10 of various style fun songs. I'm sure that you never get tired to listen to all songs.
I hope many people on this planet listen and enjoy this album "Sweet Candy Power" and get happy.

We made a new album!
It's called "Sweet Candy Power". It has colorful and fun songs.
I'm excited about this album!
We recorded it in Osaka Japan, February 2019. Wa all had a lot of fun during recording.
I used my red 1986 Fender Jazz Bass Special. I like this bass. The sound mixes good with the songs.
I also designed and made new costumes. I hope you like them. They are colorful like our new album.
I hope you enjoy "Sweet Candy Power ".

M1 Party
From the first song, this is very much like Shonen Knife style pop song.
Naru and I did backing vocals.
M2 Dizzy
Starts from clapping hands and stamping feet by all members. I enjoyed the recording a lot. I love the dizzy bass lines. By the last part, the message of this song is "Take it easy", isn't it?
M3 Sweet Candy Power
This is the title song and the best of my recommendation! I'm sure that the audience get cheerful with this song. I was very surprised and admired when I first listen to the demo of this song. Naoko is a genius!
M4 My Independent Country
Naru's bass is cool! Hard rock songs are an attractive part of Shonen Knife.
M5 Wave Rock
Atsuko's bass and backing vocal is cozy. The combination of Naoko's lead vocal and Atsuko's backing vocal is wonderful.
M6 Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches
Risa's cute voice on the cute song makes me touch my heart.
M7 Never-Never Land
This song has a beautiful minor melody line. I played the bass. I tried to make the bass line which support the beauty of the melody lines. This is an adult-like song.
M8 Peppermint Attack
Risa's intro drums are cool! The guitar riffs like Yard Birds and the bass lines are cool! The gap between the music and lyrics is so attractive because this lyrics is about an insect repellent spray. I know Naoko often has bug bites.
M9 California Lemon Trees
This song makes people relax by Atsuko's gentle voice like the weather of California.
M10 Match 3
At the ending of this album, this is very much cheerful punkish number. You feel like time went by quickly when you listen to these 10 songs. You can listen this album and enjoy it again and again.
I didn't know Match 3 games. I love video games a lot but I don't like puzzle games.
The new album "Sweet Candy Power" is a great album which contains all brilliance of Shonen Knife!
This is fun to listen and the genuine "Shonen Knife World".

"Adventure de buttobase!" means "Burn it up! Adventure Tour".

Tour members are Naoko, Atsuko and Risa. All shows except Kochi and Fukuoka shows are one-man show.

"KICK OFF 2016" at Osaka Namba Bears on Sunday 14th February!
Shonen Knife will hold a fantastic event "KICK OFF 2016" at Osaka Namba Bears on Sunday 14th February.
Having the release of the new album in March and the UK/Ireland tour including ATP from April, the event will be literally a kick off for the band.
It will be the first show which has the lineup of Naoko, Atsuko and Risa.
For the guest act, we invited our favorite all female rock band, Yellow Machinegun.
In addition to live performance, there will be the member's flea market and talk show.
The event will open at 17:00, start from 17:30 and end around 19:30.
It might be easy for you to come if you are living in faraway from Osaka.
News!! Atsuko's comeback and the recording has started!!
It was decided that the original member Atsuko's comeback and the recording has started in the hometown Osaka.
The new album will be released in late March 2016.
The members of Shonen Knife after this new album are Naoko (Vo, G), Atsuko (Bass, Vo) and Risa (Drums, Vo).
UK/Ireland Tour from April is decided, 2016 will be very active year for the band.
For Ritsuko (B, G, Vo), she is still in her childcare leave but if she can arrange her time, she will join the band when the band will play a show like "For Leaves Clover tour" which is a special tour as 4 members of Shonen Knife, shows which Atsuko can't attend and recordings.
For Naru (B, Vo), she was a support bassist for the band but she did very good job and we decided that we invited her to Shonen Knife Family as an official member.
Naoko, Risa and Naru will play at the event produced by Guitar Wolf on December 27th in Osaka.

Shonen Knife will start recording for the new album with our original member Atsuko.
Many things had happened to the band this year.
Ritsuko is taking maternity and childcare leave then Naru became the support bassist and Risa joined the band as a new drummer.
I suppose that you are wondering what's going on with the members of the band.
It is very hard for girls to continue a band. Besides of that, we tour overseas a lot and it's more difficult to keep balance of private life and band activity than usual.
Nevertheless, I'd like to be particular about keep on rocking as an all-girl band.
Now, the brilliant members, Atsuko, Risa, Ritsuko and Naru who grant my wish got together here.
"Band" is a community for making music.
All members, Atsuko, Risa, Ritsuko and Naru, have the same feeling which is "I like Shonen Knife".
I'd like to make music with the members who can share the same feeling and have a good time.
Basically, the official members are Atsuko, Risa and I who can go to long tours but I want Ritsuko and Naru to join the band when there are opportunities.
I hope you will be happy through Shonen Knife music!

Naoko asked me to join the band, so I'm back to be a member. What a happy surprise!

Hi, I'm Naru and have just joined the Shonen Knife family.
I played the bass for the band since May 2015 as a substitute for Ritsuko who is taking maternity and childcare leave.
I'm looking forward to see you at our shows.
Atsuko's comeback is a good news and also the next year is the 35th anniversary of the band.
I'd like to enjoy my favorite Shonen Knife's "ROCK", too.
I am happy to inform you that I gave birth to a 2880 kg daughter at 16:44 on September 17th.

The name of the new drummer is Risa.
She is a member of her family punk band called "BRINKY" in Oita prefecture in Japan.
BRINKY have ever opened up for Shonen Knife show and we got to know each other.
She is a 20 years old young powerful drummer.

Hello! My name is Risa.
I’m a new drummer of Shonen Knife taking over Emi.
I became 20 years old in this March and I haven’t imagined that such an unexpected piece of luck is happening to me.
It was a bigger change for me than I became able to drink alcohol legally.
(In Japan, drink alcohol is allowed from 20 years old.)
How cool that I could be a “drummer” from a “big fan” of Shonen Knife!
It is caused by not only my effort but everyone’s support.
I really thank to the fans of my family band “BRINKY” and of course the member of “BRINKY”, too.
I’d like to play the drums powerfully and cheerfully with a smile, love and thanks.

After Shonen Knife's upcoming June US Tour and July's 712 Day performances in Japan, our drummer Emi has decided to leave the band.
Emi has been with the band full time since March 2010, continuously recording and touring the world, and we wish her the best in her future efforts.
We have already chosen a new drummer to carry on in Emi's place, we will be announcing the name on July 12th.
Shonen Knife will continue on making new and exciting ROCK for everyone with our new drummer. Please expect more music and touring from us soon.
Reasons for Departure
At the end of last year Emi had expressed some concern over the long term overseas commitments of the band, and with the band's desire to expand their overseas touring and releases we all decided that a different situation would be better for Emi at present.
We hope in the future that Emi may return to play with Shonen Knife, but until then we are sure you will still be able to hear her energetic drumming as she moves on.

I've decided it's time for me to leave Shonen Knife.
For five years I've been lucky enough to see the world with the band and in that time experienced a lifetime of travel.
I've had this dream since school days, in my diary I wrote "My dream is to fly around the world playing music", and thanks to Shonen Knife this dream had come true.
In Japan and all over the world, we were met with smiles as we performed for happy fans who had come for the shows and it was awesome.
Well, now it's time for me to work on my next dream, and time to start a new life. For 5 years Naoko-san and Ritsuko-san and I have spent more time together than I have with my family and I truly appreciate their hard work and friendship. Thanks to everyone who made my time with Shonen Knife such a great experience.
I am happy Mr. Shibata at Tomato Head and the band have accepted my decision and thank them for supporting my free spirit since I began playing with the band from the beginning until the end of my stay.
Finally, a note to the fans and all involved with Shonen Knife since I joined, I have nothing but good thoughts for all of you and I can't thank you enough for your support for the past 5 years. I can't imagine how many times I was uplifted by your kind words and smiles. Maybe we'll see each other again, but until then please take care and the best of luck to all of you.
As for Shonen Knife, as long as Naoko-san decides to ROCK, the band will continue to make great music and perform as the most Kakkoii female band in the world.

Ritsuko’s maternity leave
There is some exciting news in the world of Shonen Knife, this month our bassist Ritsuko will be going on maternity leave.
Mother and baby are in good health. We are praying for her safe delivery and quick return to the band.
For Shonen Knife's US Tour 2015 in June, original member Atsuko will be joining the band as bassist for the shows.
It will be a unique opportunity for US fans to see Atsuko performing on bass for the first time in nearly a decade in the US.
Also, for the upcoming show on May 31st at Fandango, Osaka and our annual 712 DAY PARTY tour in Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka, our friend NARU will play the
bass.
Thank you very much for your support and encouragement for Shonen Knife.

No!! Mine is the real happy love story!!
I am very happy now, even though I will miss the upcoming North American tour.
I am grateful to Atsuko-san for rejoining Shonen Knife in the upcoming tour.
Also, I know that Naru-san is the most charming and talented bassist who will take my part from now on.
I am very happy to recall that I have been given a part in the activities of Shonen Knife together with the charming members and staff of Shonen Knife.
I do hope I will have a chance someday to return to the stage and perform in front of the enthusiastic Shonen Knife fans.
I will remain unchanged as one of the most dedicated fans of Shonen Knife.
