Shonen Knife's new album "Sweet Candy Power" will be released on Wednesday June 5th!
It is the first studio album after 3 years since "Adventure" (2016).
It includes characteristic 10 powerful tunes. It's worldwide release on the same day.
"Sweet Candy Power"
Release date: Wednesday June 5th
3 years have passed since our previous album "Adventure"(2016). Our latest album "Sweet Candy Power" became the 19th album since the first one "Burning Farm"(1983) as the studio albums.
Inspired by my favorite 60's and 70's British and American Rock, I wrote 10 new songs.
I write lyrics in English because it is the language of Rock music for me. I'm not a native English speaker and it's always very hard to write lyrics. It took very long with great difficulty. I think my hard work has been amply rewarded. I hope you like my lyrics. I would like to try to sing in Japanese, too someday.
I can write melody lines rather quickly if I have lyrics. I could suitable melody lines with lyrics. We tried to make cool arrangement for the songs which our audience at our shows can enjoy a lot.
In digital age, many people listen to one song by one song but this album includes 10 of various style fun songs. I'm sure that you never get tired to listen to all songs.
I hope many people on this planet listen and enjoy this album "Sweet Candy Power" and get happy.

We made a new album!
It's called "Sweet Candy Power". It has colorful and fun songs.
I'm excited about this album!
We recorded it in Osaka Japan, February 2019. Wa all had a lot of fun during recording.
I used my red 1986 Fender Jazz Bass Special. I like this bass. The sound mixes good with the songs.
I also designed and made new costumes. I hope you like them. They are colorful like our new album.
I hope you enjoy "Sweet Candy Power ".

M1 Party
From the first song, this is very much like Shonen Knife style pop song.
Naru and I did backing vocals.
M2 Dizzy
Starts from clapping hands and stamping feet by all members. I enjoyed the recording a lot. I love the dizzy bass lines. By the last part, the message of this song is "Take it easy", isn't it?
M3 Sweet Candy Power
This is the title song and the best of my recommendation! I'm sure that the audience get cheerful with this song. I was very surprised and admired when I first listen to the demo of this song. Naoko is a genius!
M4 My Independent Country
Naru's bass is cool! Hard rock songs are an attractive part of Shonen Knife.
M5 Wave Rock
Atsuko's bass and backing vocal is cozy. The combination of Naoko's lead vocal and Atsuko's backing vocal is wonderful.
M6 Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches
Risa's cute voice on the cute song makes me touch my heart.
M7 Never-Never Land
This song has a beautiful minor melody line. I played the bass. I tried to make the bass line which support the beauty of the melody lines. This is an adult-like song.
M8 Peppermint Attack
Risa's intro drums are cool! The guitar riffs like Yard Birds and the bass lines are cool! The gap between the music and lyrics is so attractive because this lyrics is about an insect repellent spray. I know Naoko often has bug bites.
M9 California Lemon Trees
This song makes people relax by Atsuko's gentle voice like the weather of California.
M10 Match 3
At the ending of this album, this is very much cheerful punkish number. You feel like time went by quickly when you listen to these 10 songs. You can listen this album and enjoy it again and again.
I didn't know Match 3 games. I love video games a lot but I don't like puzzle games.
The new album "Sweet Candy Power" is a great album which contains all brilliance of Shonen Knife!
This is fun to listen and the genuine "Shonen Knife World".
